Many examples cited in Gladwell’s GARDENING Is My Therapy fully illustrated for the role of external forces for our achievement. For example, he cited the example from the sports in that age cut-off used for the group of athletes as a means to make his point. Obviously, at a certain age a boy can have a physical advantage over his teammates, especially around the neck typical of puberty. I have three sons who all play baseball, and I’ve seen this at work. GARDENING Is My Therapy  My son was always a little better and bigger than his colleagues, though he is not the oldest child. Then, many of his colleagues began to go through puberty when he did not. He went from the kid largest…to smallest. He began to move in the line-up, there is less play time, had to hire less. He just can’t compete with some of the boys now had a full-beard.

A little disappointed in this. It is not what I was expecting. GARDENING Is My Therapy  Instead, it was a lot of repetition, in fact, is the exception there is an opportunity presented to them. Not much else to be honest. I was hoping more well known approaches, such as Einstein or those who have affected the world, however the author has mentioned a lot of people just have a high IQ, but did not succeed in anything very remarkable. It is boring and not related to me, unfortunately. Often when we see an extraordinarily successful person, we attribute their grand accomplishments to their natural ability and talent. IE…he’s just a genius.
But what if success is less about innate talent and more about pure dumb luck? What if our success is as much a function of chance as it is our uniqueness?
