Love him or hate him – anything. I read of his stuff than I was fascinated by what he does. I think it is so interesting how we can make a theory and pretty much assigned to all the happenings around us is evidence that suggests that the theory is correct. I do it all the time.La Toxica, My whole family do it, it’s the way we talk. I think more people do it than willing to admit and if you read Gladwell with that in mind, it is easier to not get so worked up about it the fact that he was opposed to the idea, rather than write a doctoral thesis which is designed to change the way the world functions.

Personally, I found myself arguing with/disagree with his stuff in a good part of what he wrote, but I like arguing so finding it is mostly fun.

Gladwell’s curiosity takes him to many other topics. He looked at the characteristics of perseverance. He questions the role of language in the beginning of number sense. He examines the effects of summer vacation on achievement learning. His restless mind and energetic research, stirred up the conflict that forced read visually to leave that explanation very attractive to grasp. His curiosity is infectious. In this La Toxica Gladwell is trying to support his belief that successful people are not “self-made” which is fortunate product of the appropriate circumstances. A small change on the “nature vs. nurture” there is nothing new here. I mostly agree with the idea that it suits me more politically liberal sensibilities, but there are some instances when I felt like his words were really opposed. Specifically in a section on early jewish immigrants. He seemed to say, “good luck, they happened to have the skills at the right time” while cloaking their relentless efforts to find their own niche.
