This dark academia novel has flaws that stand out on their own.

A Deadly Education takes place in the Scholomance, an school with no teachers but plenty of murderous and minacious monsters called mals. These mals are attracted to adolescent magic-users. So what do you do with these kids? Throw them all into a monster-infested school seems like the best option. Galadriel—but call her El—Higgins is an junior attending the Scholomace (not sure why it’s “junior” consider it was founded by British) with an affinity for dark magic. Her typical day consists of warding off mals and avoid her fellow students, especially Orion Lake, a hero type who might have a savior complex when it comes to battling mals.
