I absolutely loved that the book focused mainly on El trying to survive the school year rather than a romance. Watching her try to use the advantages she’s given to her advantage and learn how to make friends with other people was one of the most satisfying parts of the story for me. There are some fun moments between El and her sworn enemy / potential crush Orion Lake but these don’t dominate the book. Plus, Aadhya and Liu — El’s targets for potential friendship — are strong women that I loved getting to learn more about over the course of the story.
