This is already extremely heavy on exposition and has a lot going on and really seems to be more about setting the stage for the series and following an arc of development for the main character. So doing all of that when a cultural deep dive isn’t really the intent of the somewhat makes sense. That said, the MC is half white, half Indian (cool!) but her Indian dad died to save her pregnant mom and her white mom is a guru-like figure (a bit more side-eye on a backstory that could have been thought through better) So I do think there are valid critiques to be made and if that is going to bother you, perhaps steer clear.
