Even though A Deadly Education is mostly a character study of Galadriel and her classmates, I do wish the main plot would have been a bit tighter. Novik is obviously having fun with her deadly-Hogwarts-like school and all her world-building, but I kept looking for some direction to drive everyone forward. Instead, the book is a bit meandering and is almost over-the-top on the exposition side. Luckily, Novik has created a cozy world that’s usually a pleasure to hang around in.
