The aspect of the that gave me pause is that I was expecting it to have a distinctly Adult Fantasy feel and instead, it had a more YA-leaning feel to it. Which is good! I just feel it’s marketed differently. Also, I’m not entirely sure some racial aspects were handled well? I’ll have to read more reviews to learn more here, but some parts make me cringe a little. namely the comment locs and represent two races. El is half Welsh/half Indian, so I thought Novik would make sure to include parts of both cultures, but that didn’t sit well with me. I was hoping for more in this regard.
