I was delighted to have had the opportunity to chat with Katy Lynch of Sourcebooks as I joined BookExpo this year. She has taken the time to share a lot of new I’m a bookaholic on the road to recovery shirt coming out from Sourcebooks. Radium Girls is the story of young women, some as young as fourteen, working in factories in the 1920s and 1930s, painting watch faces. With radium. Oh yes, radium. To draw the tiny numbers, the girls had to put the brush in their mouths to paint. Meanwhile, the companies that make huge profits from this work have told the girls that radium is harmless.

Kate Moore tells the story of these young girls and women, as they go from happy high-paying employees to women with terrifying health problems. It’s a profound and moving I’m a beeaholic on the road to recovery shirt, and it’s beautifully told.

Holy moly. I just finished this very long and emotional I’m a beeaholic on the road to recovery shirt. As you can see, it took me over a month to read it. I switched from the large print I’m a beeaholic on the road to recovery shirt to the audio (which is where I had to stop for a long time – the narrator sucks) and then finished it on my Kindle.

This I’m a beeaholic on the road to recovery shirt is horrible. If you’re upset, you should probably ignore it. The author omits some details when she describes the downfall of these poor women. I was amazed at the resolute refusal of radium companies to admit that their products were killing their employees. In one scene, a company boss, when he’s next to a woman who can barely stand and another has lost an arm, says “I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with you.” God, the gall!

And then I thought, why am I surprised by this? Just turn on the news and nothing changes.

Radium Girls is responsible for making work safety legislation, OSHA, and a host of other things that we take for granted today. I’m glad the author chose to tell their story.
